【本の内容】
・本来なら、2冊に分けてもいいのではないかと思えるほどの量。
第一部はレシプロエンジンについて解説。原理の説明から始まり、ピストンやクランクシャフトの実物写真やイラストを織り交ぜながら説明。
他にも燃料系統や潤滑系統・点火装置など、全300ページをフルに使って一つ一つ丁寧に解説されています。航空用ピストンエンジンを勉強中の方は、この章だけでも十分役立ちます。
第二部のガスタービンに関しても、レシプロの章と同じく全400ページをフルに使って構成部品を説明。
エンジンマニュアルから抜粋されたと思われるイラスト図面や、Cutawayと呼ばれるエンジンの透視図なども多様されているのがメカマニアにとっては嬉しいポイント。1ページ全てを使った、RR Tayエンジンの断面図などもある。
今の時代ならネットで検索すれば出てきそうな図面も多いが、これらが1冊にまとめられているのが便利。
詳細なパーツ図面や写真・断面図ばかりという感じで、次は何が出てくるのかとページをめくるのが楽しい。JT8D・JT9Dが出てきたと思えば、次はPW2037、CF6、RB211、CFM56・・・PW120・Dart・アリソン250と続く。（軍用エンジンは、ほとんどありません）
本来は航空整備士を目指す教科書ですが、ジェットエンジンマニアが趣味としても楽しめる一冊です。
